How women steer the largest holiday sales at Myntra, Flipkart, and Amazon
To handle the massive spike in sales from millions of customers nationwide over the holiday season, India's e-commerce sector is actively hiring more women and providing them with more chances.
In order to fulfill the increased demand during the festival season, e-commerce company Flipkart said that its supply chain growth will generate over 100,000 job opportunities throughout India. Eleven new fulfillment centers have been opened in nine different cities.
According to Flipkart, the number of women hired into the blue-collar workforce for this holiday season has increased by 24% as compared to the Big Billion Days (BBD) sale event in 2023.
According to Prajakta Kanaglekar, vice president of supply chain, tech, and CX HR Leader at Flipkart, as the e-commerce industry develops, it is becoming more and more clear that having women in traditionally male-dominated roles like last-mile deliveries and warehouse operations is crucial to opening up new opportunities and viewpoints.
"We are also happy to report that during this year's holiday season, the number of women working in blue-collar roles increased, which is evidence of our dedication to promoting gender diversity," Kanaglekar said. "These women are strengthening our operational capabilities and contributing to our growth by taking on critical roles in warehouses like packing, picking, and other tasks, as well as in our last-mile operations throughout India."
