STC and FMTC permitted duty-free importation of sugar
In order to prevent a sugar scarcity in light of the impending holidays, the government has permitted the Food Management & Trade Company and Salt Trading Corporation (STC) to import 30,000 metric tons of sugar with a 50% customs duty waiver.
According to Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Council of Ministers convened on Monday and resolved to exempt the STC and FMTC from 50% of the customs charge that would otherwise apply to the import of 15,000 metric tons of sugar each.
Minister Gurung confirmed at a news conference held at the Ministry today that two state-owned businesses have been granted permission to import sugar with a customs exemption in order to avoid a shortage of sweeteners during the festivals of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath.
Chitralekha Yadav, a Siraha resident, was also suggested by the cabinet meeting for the positions of non-resident ambassador to Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Palau, Nauru, Marshall Islands, and Tonga Kingdom, as well as resident ambassador to Australia.
The agreement between Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and SJVN Limited to develop the Arun-IV hydropower project through a joint venture was extended by the Council of Ministers by one year, according to Minister Gurung, who doubles as the government spokesperson.
During the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, the meeting also approved the creation of four infrastructure development committee positions in the Sports Village and Fapla International Cricket Ground and twelve gazetted temporary jobs in the National Youth Council under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
An organization and management (O&M) survey of the Ministry of Finance and its subordinate departments has been approved by the government. The Land Use (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2081, as well as the national report on the application of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, have been approved by the Cabinet and will be forwarded to the relevant United Nations Committee.
