For the benefit of Nepali farmers, an American project worth roughly 3 billion rupees has begun.
A USD 21 million (Rs 2.80 billion) USAID Agricultural Direct Financing initiative has been announced by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Nepal with the aim of enhancing food security.
The Government of Nepal and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have announced a USD 21 million project for improved food security through USAID Agricultural Direct Financing, which will help Nepali farmers.
The US government's plan to enhance food and nutrition security in Nepal was also unveiled during the event, which also marked the launch of the country's new five-year Global Food Security Strategy-Nepal Country Plan 2024–2028.
Through the federal, provincial, and local governments, the USAID Agricultural Direct Financing Project will boost the Government of Nepal's ability to plan and carry out agricultural development activities in Lumbini and Far Western Provinces. In order to boost productivity throughout a 53,000-hectare area, the project will assist 69,000 households in implementing new agricultural techniques and technology, according to the press release.
In order to alleviate poverty, hunger, and malnutrition in a sustainable manner, the new Global Food Security Strategy - Nepal Country Plan 2024-2028 intends to reform agriculture and food systems. This plan would include 26 districts in Terai and Pahar. It will also expand access to the most vulnerable population in Nepal by extending the American government's agricultural development program to the province of Madhes.
The US ambassador to Nepal, Dean Thompson, spoke at the opening program and said that the new Global Food Security Strategy - Nepal Country Plan will accomplish inclusive, uplifting, and sustainable development by fortifying the current alliance between the US and the Nepalese government, business community, and communities.
He stated that our shared commitment to ensuring food security in Nepal is demonstrated by the recent government-to-government agreement.
Speaking at the function, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari stressed the importance of the two governments working together to enhance food security and encourage sustainable development, and he stated that Nepal is dedicated to this collaboration.
