Production was suspended at the Upper Tamakoshi hydropower facility due to landslide damage.
At the dam area of the 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, situated in Bigu Rural Municipality-1 Lamabagar of Dolakha, landslides brought on by nonstop rains have harmed the headworks.
Because of the increased water flow in Upper Tamakoshi, electricity generating has also been discontinued. The dam's gates have all been opened. The sand thickening pond (desander), the control room on the right side of the dam, and the canal (culvert) that carries water from the dam to the desander are all destroyed a short distance below the dam site. The avalanche that dropped from above is thought to have severely damaged the control room, desander, and culvert.
According to Mohan Gautam, the CEO of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd., the project's promoter, flooding in the rivers at the entry from Gongar to the dam housing the power plant prevented anyone from getting there.
Gautam stated that the control room, desander, culvert, and other structures are thought to have been damaged based on the nature of the landslide. The reservoir region has a significant amount of mud and stones piled up as a result of the landslide.
The Tamakoshi project has a design discharge (water flow) of 66 cumec. There are currently 461 cumecs downstream of the Tamakoshi River Dam. When the Bamojim River's water flow hits 250 cumec, the energy purchase and selling agreement with the Nepal energy Authority would be fulfilled.
The power plant ought to be shut down. On Friday, the water flow reached 250 cumecs after 4 p.m. and kept rising, so starting at 7 p.m., the power generating was entirely shut off.
